It’s an English class tradition! On the last days before Winter Break, students at International School of Portland roll out of bed and straight to their classroom – pajamas and all! Our Annual Read In Your Pajamas Day is a student favorite. It’s a celebration of reading for the joy of reading. 1st through 5th Grade students can come to school in their pjs to participate.* Packing a set of regular clothes is recommended. Read in Your Pajamas day will be spread across two days as it was last year. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Parents and other caregivers are invited to join us during your child’s English class. Bring a favorite book, wear your pajamas too, and spend some time reading to kids or being read to! Super simple, super wonderful. 4th and 5th Graders have opted to read on their own this year (sorry, parents!) Dec 19th – Read In Your Pajamas Day for 3rd & 5th Grades (Times and locations for 3rd Grade parents to join us will be confirmed by your child’s English Teacher) Dec 20th – Read In Your Pajamas Day for 1st, 2nd, and 4th Grades (Times and locations for 1st and 2nd Grade parents to join us will be confirmed by your child’s English Teacher) *Is your child in PreK-K? We are pleased to introduce J May, our new Global Kids Program Coordinator! Here is a bio written by J: “Born and raised in the desert of Las Vegas, Nevada and just moved out to the Portland area (back for round II), because I oddly enjoy the seasonal weather. I have attended the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and Portland State with a BS in Communications and minor in Child development looming for next fall. I have loads of experience having been an afterschool enrichment teacher and recess coordinator just up the road at Ainsworth Elementary for 4+ years, a seasonal site director at Steve & Kate’s Camp at All Saints School in Northeast PDX for a few summers, and just recently a kids’ programs supervisor at Life Time Athletic in Las Vegas. I am ecstatic at the opportunity to join the amazing International School family. I aim to provide an entertaining, educational, friendly and safe environment for all. Let’s get started! Go Owls!” Welcome to ISP, J! Parent Information Night: Child Sleep and Nutrition

This year, families from both 4th and 5th grade Chinese will host students – thank you, host families!! Each visiting student will be matched with a ISP student with whom they will attend classes throughout their visit. Some of the visiting students will be the same students who will host our students during Capstone in March. This is a wonderful opportunity for the 5th graders to get to know their host buddy and to get a glimpse of what it may be like to stay with a host family and attend a host school during Capstone.
