The International School has two multilingual libraries; one at the Main Campus and one the Early Childhood Campus. Both are stocked with thousands of books in English, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish. All students have structured weekly classes with our Librarians, and are allowed to check out materials regularly.
The library curriculum teaches library and information research skills, and increases literacy across languages. The classes teach library use, etiquette, and terminology. Lessons include grade-appropriate discussions of basic literary elements (main character, setting, and plot), book talks, and games.
Second through fifth grade students learn to access the library’s electronic catalogue and web resources, while fourth and fifth graders learn to conduct research using various online databases. Kindergarten through fifth graders also work on basic keyboarding skills.
