Lunar New Year Celebrations

新年快乐! We are in the midst of Lunar New Year celebrations at ISP. The ISP Parent Network and Chinese Track Teachers have created some very special ways to mark this important holiday, celebrated in countries such as China, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, and in Asian communities around the world.

On Monday, elementary school students learned a Chinese song, “Gong Xi!” (Congratulations!), sung during times of celebration. We also shared a short educational video, so students from all the language tracks could learn about the background of Lunar New Year. Throughout the week, members of our Education Leadership Team will be visiting classrooms to deliver hongbao (red envelopes) with golden chocolate coins to our students, echoing the tradition of elders giving hongbao filled with money to children during LNY.

On Thursday, we will welcome the Oregon Chinese Coalition’s Mulan Drum Team and our very own ISP Student Lion Dancers to perform on the Lower Playground. Parents are welcome to attend!

– Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Grades: 12:45-1:30pm
– PreK, LowK, 4th, 5th Grades: 2:00-2:45pm

If your preschool child does not attend Thursdays or is half day only and would like to participate in the festivities, parents are welcome to bring them and celebrate in the fun!

5th Grade teacher Wenyun Liu and the Chinese track teachers have been coordinating with the Parent Network for this year’s Lunar New Year celebrations! Big thank you to Wenyun laoshi, the Chinese track teachers, and Parent Network helpers including: Stephanie, Colin, Evan, Debbie, Alex, Wendy, Emily, Laura , Melissa, and Bernie.

February Learner Profile Attribute: I am Principled

The ten International Baccalaureate Learner Profile traits are school values, and are means by which to support healthy social and emotional development. Our faculty focuses upon one of them each month as means.

For February, our faculty are focusing on “Principles”

Profile Overview: We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.

– I am honest and fair
– I stand up for others
– I am responsible for my own actions

A principle can be defined as a belief, truth, or value that helps us make choices, especially in tough situations. As we celebrate Black History Month, think about the many ways we can connect our students to these principles through the stories of the artists/ activists who overcame adversity and fought for change.

Our librarians, Amy and Tomoyo, have recommended books about being Principled. They are available for checkout at the ISP Library!

Please Record Volunteer Hours!

Hello, Volunteers!

We have many parents helping out with the International Festival, presenting to classes, chaperoning field trips, and assisting in the library and elsewhere on (and off!) campus. Please record your hours so that we know who to thank! Plus, an accurate record of volunteer hours is very important for grant applications and external funding.

Volunteer hours can even be recorded for “educational meetings” like Curriculum Night, Principal Coffees, and more!
Please record hours here

You can also find the link in MySchool App under the Resources section.

ISP wouldn’t be the great school it is without our volunteers! THANK YOU!
