Lunar New Year Recap

On Monday, our older ISP Chinese track students were lucky to receive a visit from renowned, 4th generation embroidery artists from Suzhou. Ms. Haiyun and Ms. Zhu presented about their art and then led students begin their own embroidery projects!

新年快乐!

We’ve really been enjoying our Lunar New Year celebrations! Our entire campus welcomed the M and were very impressed by our 5th Grade lion dance performance!

Our Chinese track students partook in more activities and traditions in their classrooms.

Here’s a video of all of the festivities across the International School of Portland campus!

Black History Month Update

This week we are celebrating African American History! Please be sure to check out the new displays in Stearns Hall, created by members of our Education Leadership Team and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Community Committee. Special thanks to Marguerite McAleer-Bennett and to parent Mimi and family! Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Community has been instrumental in providing input to school leadership and ensuring that we thoroughly inquire into how artists of African descent have used diverse forms of expression to celebrate culture, preserve community memory and to inspire action.

The displays will change with each week’s focus (Africa, Africa in Latin America, African American History, Bringing it all Together) so please stop by Stearns Hall before you miss Week 3! Thank you to the entire EDI Community Committee for all you do to ensure all our community members feel seen, heard, and included.

Also, be sure to check out these Black History Month book selections, curated by our ISP Librarians Amy and Tomoyo!
