Fall Break! No Classes Next Week
Just a reminder that there is no school for students on November 20-24 due to Fall Break.
Global Kids will be open from November 20-21. There are openings in all grade groups!
Please plan accordingly!
New Play Structure!
The Early Childhood playground has a beautiful new play structure! Preschool and Kindergarten families and students were invited to play yesterday afternoon (and many older students have checked it out during the school day!)
This wonderful new addition is made possible by the 2023 Gala Special Appeal, “Beautiful, Playful Spaces”
Without your generous donations, this would not have happened! Thank you!
ISP Japanese Capstone Study Abroad Trip Update
The Japanese Capstone group has finished up their week of homestay and attending Hakusandai Elementary School in Hachinohe. The ISP students were all in different classes and participated wholeheartedly alongside the Hachinohe students in day-to-day academics and classwork, some special activities, and responsibilities expected of Japanese students like helping serve lunch and clean the school. It was an emotional end to the week as students were reluctant to say goodbye to their new friends and host families, but other adventures await!
This week, students are traveling around Japan and visiting various sites of cultural and historical significance. Our Capstone students were remarkable ambassadors of ISP in Hachinohe, and we eagerly await their next updates!
ISP Green Corner
Solve CleanUp & Other Campus Work
We had a hearty crew of 12 folks attend the campus clean up event this past Saturday. Parents and kids helped Priscilla get the garden ready for the winter, others picked up trash all around the school area, and a bunch of people did double-duty and helped to spread bark chips around the new play structure to get it ready for heavy-duty playing! The Green Team provided coffee, cocoa, and morning treats for those who came out in the rain.
The bark chips crew!
Thanks to all of our volunteers!
New Owl Box on Campus!
ISP has a new home for our real, living mascot! After reported sightings of a resident owl on campus, the school has installed an owl box in one of our campus trees to house our mascot friend! Many thanks to Steven Borcherding and Reid Thompson for spearheading this! The new box is pictured below. The next time you’re on campus, have a look around and see if you can find the box.
You can find more information on why owl boxes improve sustainability, and—if you’re so inclined—instructions on how to make your own, here: https://www.ucdavis.edu/one-health/how-to-build-an-owl-box
enTaiko & CymaSpace present: Taiko and Light
“Taiko and Light” is a ground shaking concert features new enTaiko compositions “sung” in ASL with music played on taiko drums. The Japanese taiko is one of the few instruments which provide analog haptics. Haptics are instruments used to create musical vibrations for members of the DHH community to experience music more deeply. Combined with sound responsive LED panels programmed and built by CymaSpace; this is a show to WOW both deaf and hearing audiences.
