Fall Costume Parade
Get ready for the annual Fall Costume Parade! It will be held on Thursday, October 31 from 8:45-9:45am.
Students, Families, and Staff are encouraged to dress up! Please, no weapons of any kind (light sabers are weapons), no bloody wounds or very scary masks, and no costumes that drag on the ground or otherwise interfere with walking. Students can put on masks or long capes ONLY for the parade and must take them off again after the parade.
No candy, please (most kids will get enough of that Halloween night)!
A Note from Bodo Heiliger, Head of Elementary
Dear TIS Community,
Every day as you walk around TIS, you are enveloped by the four languages that make our school special. Often, we talk about the three homeroom immersion languages of Mandarin, Spanish, and Japanese. Yet, English, the mother tongue of the vast majority of our students, often does not get enough publicity. This year, we hope to change that by increasing awareness and understanding of our Elementary English program.
In previous years, I have hosted Head of Elementary Coffees from 8:00-9:00 for parents to come and talk about TIS; what’s going well; what’s not going so well; and what we can do to make TIS better. This year, I have partnered with the English department to host Collaborative Coffees, so they can share what they do, how you can support at home, and answer any questions about the program. The last thirty minutes, I will facilitate a broader discussion about specific topics of interest about the entire school and program.
If you are interested in learning more about English reading, writing, spelling, or assessment, the first coffee is this Wednesday, October 9th from 8:00-9:00. Please fill out this super-short survey to help us guide the conversation:
Minutes from the meeting will be shared out to the community, but the coffee and treats won’t.
– Bodo Heiliger, Head of Elementary

Education Town Hall – Oct 29th
The Educational Leadership Team (ELT) would like to invite you to our Fall Education Town Hall virtual meeting. Held twice a year, our Town Halls allow parents to pose questions or comments about any part of the academic program or general operations of The International School. They offer a way to expand interaction between the ELT and the parent community, as well as to help build and promote clear communication.
This Town Hall will be virtual! You’ll be able to attend the meeting from your own home, office, or desert island, provided you have internet access. Please join us online the evening of Tuesday, Oct 29th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
In an effort to identify the most pressing questions you might have, please complete this survey in advance of the meeting. We will prioritize the responses in order to help focus the discussions at the meeting.
We hope that you can join us!
