The Owl 6/13/23

Cheers to our 2023 Volunteers of the Year!

Please extend your cheers and congratulations to our 2023 Volunteers of the Year, Melissa M and Stephanie K! Parent and staff feedback was clear about who the winners should be for 2023!

Melissa M. is our Parent Network Co-chair. Under her (and Co-chair Bernie M’s) leadership, the Parent Network has revived in-person volunteering on campus and expanded our three cultural celebrations into fully engaged affairs featuring booths, learning activities, music, and other wonderful traditions! In addition, Melissa has been a room parent for many years.

Stephanie K. is everywhere! She is here to help with whatever is needed, including the Japanese track strategy committee, Children’s Day celebrations, classroom projects, Moving for Music and Art, auction support, campus beautification and garden, and more! She, too, has been a longtime room parent!

Thank you, Melissa and Stephanie, for your leadership and immense support of our ISP community!

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Janice, ISP Volunteer of the Year 2022. Janice is a 5th grade parent, and she and her family will be moving to California over the summer. We will miss you a lot, Janice!

Walk & Roll to School Challenge Month WINNERS!

Walk & Roll to School Challenge Month is complete, and we put up some very impressive numbers! Remember, there were 21 school days in May, so a perfect record would be 21 round trips, or 42 total trips.

We have a TIE for 1st place!! And for the first time ever, they both came out top for the second year running!
Our winners are 1st Grade students M and F, who both had a perfect score of 42 trips completed!

Congrats to M, F, and their dedicated parents. Thank you all for helping our planet stay healthy! You win prize packs of bike schwag AND a bottle of wine! We will contact you to coordinate delivery.

Other honorable mentions worth celebrating:

R, A, and O made double-digit trips! Hopefully that inner sense of peace, fitness, and glory will last throughout the lovely summer months to help stoke that fantastic feeling of fossil fuel freedom for the fall! Thanks for participating. Have a wonderful Summer. Hope to see you in the bike lane!

All participants who turned in a score sheet or participated in the Bike Parade will receive prizes – please check backpacks this week.

Thanks to all who participated!

Please Return Your Library Books!

All library items are now due back to school! Thanks for helping us make the end of the year inventory possible.

Found some to return? Great! Options for returning:

  • Drop at Jenna’s desk in Stern’s
  • Drop in the box by the desk in Hilltop
  • Drop at the library during arrival or dismissal!

It is important to encourage your student to read this summer. We’ve had discussions about how to develop a consistent practice of reading by creating reading spaces and routines at home and while traveling. Help your kids create consistent opportunities to read and conspicuously demonstrate your own practice of reading. Consider signing them up for a summer reading program though your public libraries in Multnomah, Washington or Clackamas counties.

ISP ebooks and audiobooks are available via ISP’s SORA subscription and can help make road trips more enjoyable. Encourage your child to read an ebook or listen to an audiobook in their track language to stay sharp over the summer!

Summer Tutoring is Available!

If families are interested in summer tutoring in a track language, or English, or even Music or Art, please contact our Student Support Services Coordinator, Erin Porter at erinp [at] intlschool.org. She has a list to share!

Please Record Your Volunteer Hours!

Thanks to everyone who came out to support our amazing Talent Show performers last Friday!

We’ve had SO many event, field trips, and other school activities, which never would have happened without the help of our wonderful volunteers! Please record your hours so that we know who to thank! Plus, an accurate record of volunteer hours is very important for grant applications and external funding.

Volunteer hours can even be recorded for “educational meetings” like Board Meetings, Info Nights, Student Led Conferences, and more!

You can find the link in MySchool App under the Resources section.

ISP wouldn’t be the great school it is without our volunteers! THANK YOU!
