Please Return Your Library Books!

All library items are now due back to school! Thanks for helping us make the end of the year inventory possible.

Found some to return? Great! Options for returning:

  • Drop at Jenna’s desk in Stern’s
  • Drop in the box by Valana’s desk in Hilltop
  • Drop at the library during arrival or dismissal!

It is important to encourage your student to read this summer. We’ve had discussions about how to develop a consistent practice of reading by creating reading spaces and routines at home and while traveling. Help your kids create consistent opportunities to read and conspicuously demonstrate your own practice of reading. Consider signing them up for a summer reading program though your public libraries in Multnomah, Washington or Clackamas counties.

ISP ebooks and audiobooks are available via ISP’s SORA subscription and can help make road trips more enjoyable. Encourage your child to read an ebook or listen to an audiobook in their track language to stay sharp over the summer!

Curious About Koi – short film featuring ISP students!

ISP recently partnered with the Portland Japanese Garden to produce a video for Kodomo no Hi / Children’s Day. The video that was shown live on May 7th at the Garden’s Kodomo no Hi event, and features several ISP students asking questions about the koi fish, which hold a very special place in Japanese culture.

This beautiful video was filmed both at the Portland Japanese Garden and in our Library here on campus. This video is now showing on the Portland Japanese Garden’s YouTube channel and is linked below for your viewing:

We hope you enjoy this piece of Japanese culture and in learning more about koi!

Host a Student from Japan this Summer!

Are you ready to change a young person’s life and expand your cultural awareness and international friendships? If so, we have a few opportunities to host students from Japan this summer.

When?
July 11-25: Japanese high school students at Portland State University
August 1-12: Japanese high school students at Pacific International Academy
August 16-September 10: Japanese university students at Portland State University
October 29-November 18: Japanese high school students at Portland State University

What will students do?
Students will be attending an Intensive English Language Program at Portland State University and Pacific International Academy, 9-5 on weekdays. They look forward to spending evenings and weekends experiencing American culture and practicing their English with their host. Students can commute on public transit. Commutes need to be about an hour or less between home and school on public transit, including walking time, unless you can help by driving your student to a transit center, MAX station, or downtown. Check your commute on TriMet or GoogleMaps.

What is a host family’s responsibility?
Host families provide plenty of daily conversation and interaction, three meals per day, internet access, and a private bedroom for college students (teens may share a room with another household member of the same gender, similar in age, they just need their own bed). The students bring their own spending money and are covered by comprehensive medical and accident insurance. Orientation materials, 24/7 support, and a stipend are provided to hosts.
