新年快乐! Happy New Year!
新年快乐! Today marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year! Many of our Chinese track teachers and students dressed for the occasion as they partook in customary celebrations and activities. The classes also decorated hallways and outdoor areas and visited other language tracks as a means to share the Chinese and Taiwanese traditions with the overall community.
We had an absolutely wonderful visit today from the White Lotus Lion Dancers, who performed outside for all grades. Today’s celebration was extra special, as this the first time that we have assembled as a community like this in two years.
Please check backpacks for a special activity packet. Our heartfelt thanks goes to the following Parent Network Volunteers who helped to organize today’s celebration:
Janice Chow-Ng
Catherine Wong
Matt Beasley
Kimberly Stuart
Katie Auyang
Hsiang-Yi Lin
Stephanie Kopp
WEDNESDAY! Global School Play Day
Tomorrow, February 2nd, we will be participating in a Global School Play Day! Play Days are a global effort created by educators in support of unstructured playtime for students around the world. One million students across the globe participated last year!
Students can bring class to bring anything they wish to play with to school on Wednesday, Feb 2nd. The only restrictions: they must bring toys and these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices.
Ideas: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.).
February is Black History Month
February is Black History Month in the United States. At ISP, we are committed to being an anti-racist school while creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for our community members.
This week, we have begun with sharing stories and literature that highlights, celebrates, and recognizes Black and African American contributions. These grade-based read-alouds and discussions provoke a sense of curiosity and understanding of how to take action to support Black history and culture, which is indeed American culture. We will share additional information and resources as the month continues.
NPS One Question Survey!
You should have gotten an email yesterday from Maria or Dr. Pamela that asks for your participation in a very short survey. It is a simple one-question survey per student in your family. It’s a simple way for you to let us know what we are doing well and where we can improve. The feedback from this survey helps us to shape our activities and priorities, both school-wide and in specific areas.
It will take no more than a few moments of your time. The more people that participate, the more actionable and valuable the feedback will be to the school.
Please look for the “ISP Quick parent feedback” email in your inbox! Thank you for your feedback.
