ISP Summer Camp: Portland’s Best Academic, General, and OVERALL Camp!

    

 WE WON!!   International School of Portland’s Summer Camp has been voted NW Kids Magazine’s Best Best Academic Camp, General Camp, and OVERALL CAMP!!

WOW! Wasn’t expecting that one!  Thanks to all of you who voted. We look forward to seeing many of you at camp this summer!

Moving for Music and Art – We did it!!

We did it! The ISP community successfully raised over $26,000 for our music and arts programs and the money is still coming in.  Donor Participation in our annual fun run increased over 55% from last year – wow!  Thank you to all students, parents, family members, friends and all other sponsors for helping make Moving for Music and Art an immensely successful annual event.  If you have not turned forms along with collected pledges, you may drop them off at the front desk of Hilltop or Stearns or at the Arthur building. It’s never too late!

We are pleased to announce our winners for MMA 2019.  Congratulations to these students who ran a LOT of laps and secured numerous sponsors. Our top three winners have won a $25 gift card from Blick Art Supplies, Music Millennium or Powell’s Books.

  • 2nd – Adrian Schulman – Spanish 5
  • 3rd – Dane Hanson – Spanish 4

And rounding out our top 10 who will receive a $10 gift card from Blick Art Supply, Music Millennium or Powell’s Books are:

Teacher Appreciation Week is Next Week!     

 

Teacher Appreciation Week begins next Monday! There are several ways that you and your child can participate, including bringing flowers, homemade cards, or baked goods. Your child’s room parent should have sent you an email with the schedule; please ask him or her if you have any questions!

Interested in doing a little extra on top of your class participation? We also need some additional help during the week. You can sign up here.


Reminder: NO SCHOOL on May 17th or May 24th!  – Lunch Changes

Just a reminder that this Friday, May 17th is a Professional Development Day and Friday, May 24th is a Grading Day. There is no school for students either Friday, but Global Kids will be open.

Because we now have no school May 17th and WILL have school June 3rd , the lunch delivery has changed as well. There will be NO Pizza Monday on June 3rd.

However, all the kids that normally order from Dragonwell on May 17th will have that same delivery on June 3rd. 


Walk & Roll Challenge – Bike Parade!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Bike Parade to school last Wednesday! We had our biggest turnout yet. It  was so fun to see the mass of bikes come down the road to school.

The parade was part of the school’s participation in the citywide Walk & Roll Challenge. It continues through the end of May, so it’s not too late to give it a go!  Pick up a tracking sheet at any ISP front desk.


The ISP Talent Show is Coming!

The ISP Talent Show is coming – get those auditions ready! We’re calling for Talent that Shows your hard work. Music / Comedy / Dance / Poetry / Magic / Theatre / Quirky Skills (Speedy cup-stacking?)  Sorry, Lip Syncers, this show’s not for you!

The shows will be Friday, June 7 after school at the Lower Playground

Open to students in grades K-5 

Video auditions due by 11:59pm on May 28

School’s Out Party at Oaks Park!   

Need something fun to do to celebrate the end of the school year?  The Parent Network is hosting a party and rides at Oaks Park after dismissal on the last day of school, Thursday, June 13th from 10:30a – 3:00p! (School dismissal is anytime from 10a-noon.)  Oaks Park is not open to the public on that day except by advanced school group reservation only!

ALL ISP families are invited to attend.  (Kiddie rides will be open for little ones too!) Per person cost of includes a ride bracelet and a cold treat!

MAIN CAMPUS BOOK FAIR
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the Main Campus the week of May 28th – 31st. The children get so excited about the books, so this is a really fun event.  Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Please sign-up for a time works for you here.

LIBRARY
The library is a hive of activity as we buzz along toward the end of the school year!  We need more volunteer worker bees to help us with shelving and other special projects as we prepare to close the library for our exciting summer remodel. We can work with your schedule to find a time and a project that fits – daytime, evening, active or sitting, solo or as a group – we’ve got something for you to do!  If you are interested in learning more, please contact Heidi at hevans@intlschool.org.  

TALENT SHOW
Work from home help needed! We need 2-4 volunteers to help review submissions, gather songs, and put together the order of performance for the show on June 7. Email talent@intlschool.org or kats@intlschool.org if interested!

OAKS PARK PARTY
We will need parent volunteers on June 13th to help out with wristbands, ice cream distribution, gear store, and other support tasks. Times will be 10am-3pm; there will be shifts so that people can go and enjoy the park with their kiddos! If you are interested in helping out that day, please contact parentnetwork@intlschool.org

Keepin’ it Clean Campus Walk – Grades 4 & 5 (morning walk).  Fourth and Fifth Grade families are invited to come out, socialize, and help keep the areas surrounding campus clean. Some members pick up trash/remove weeds as they walk, but that is not a specific part of the program (Pickers and bags are provided; bring some gloves if you can). An easy way to get volunteer hours!  Adults Only, please. Meet at the Hilltop Gate. 8:15-9:15am.

NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS. Global Kids Alternative Date (Open 7:45am-4:40pm): Did you know that May 17 is a No-School Day? There is still limited space in Global Kids Alternative Day programming. You can enroll in the Day Block and Block 1 online in SchoolsBuddy. All students enrolled in the Day Block and Block 1 on May 17 must be picked up no later than 4:40pm at the latest.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. We kick off Teacher Appreciation Week with a catered luncheon! We are looking for additional help. This is a wonderful way to break up a work day with a delightful treat and make our beloved teachers feel special. Please follow this link to sign up
