The Owl Weekly Parent Bulletin 3/11/19

School Calendar Date Change

Per the email from Robert Woods, we have rare professional development (PD) opportunity for our teachers. Highly respected IB educators Anne van Dam, Anne-Marie Evans and Lynn Cuccaro will be in Portland in May.   In order to take advantage of this great opportunity, we will need to make a change to the school calendar.

  • Friday, May 17th will be a no class day so that our teachers will be free to work with the Anne, Anne-Marie and Lynn for the full day.

  • In order to maintain our number of school days, Monday, June 3rd will be a regular school day (which is currently listed as a no class day/curriculum planning day).
Specific details about how Global Kids will adjust to this situation are now being finalized. You will be receiving more information about this on or before this Friday, March 15.

Catch Up on the Capstone Trips!

Our Capstone Study Abroad trips are well underway! Our Capstone blogs are a great way to follow along on the experience. Students, parents, and teachers will regularly contribute  during their trips. Check them out here:

ISP hosts Regional OBOB Tournament!

ISP hosted the regional Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) regional tournament last weekend. The event was a huge success, which included 18 competitor teams from around the area.  Congratulations to the Abernethy “Freedom Readers” who took 1st place!

The ISP “Book Nuts,” our school winners, did an amazing job. Though they didn’t win, they stayed through to the end to watch the final battle. So many volunteers chipped in to make the event a success with lots of outside visitors. Doug and Frey Stearns even came for some of the day to see the ISP team in action! Special thanks to Beth Katona and Catherine Hartoch for leading all of the ISP OBOB efforts, including organizing the school and the regional competitions.

It isn’t too late to starting thinking about next year!! The 2019-20 OBOB Book Titles have been released…check them out here: https://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/2019-2020-obob-book-titles/
