Lan Su Chinese Garden Performance

Several of our Chinese track classes performed at Lan Su Chinese Garden on Sunday as part of the Lunar New Year celebrations!  Christy and YiFeng’s 5th grade classes, Maggie’s 3rd grade, and Jennifer’s 2nd grade all did great jobs.

Since the professional lion dance group cancelled, our 5th grade lion dancers got to open the show and parade around the Garden!  Visit our Facebook page for a slideshow!

Global School Play Day this Friday!

This Friday morning, we will be participating in a Global School Play Day! Play Days are a global effort created by educators in support of unstructured playtime for students around the world.

Students can bring class to bring anything they wish to play with to school on Friday, Feb 15. The only restrictions: they must bring toys and these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Ideas: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.).

For more information about the value of unstructured play,  here is some research.

Please note that Friday is also an Early Dismissal Day – please pick up by 12:45 unless you are enrolled for Global Kids Alternate Day.

OBOB Tournament Volunteers Needed!

Oregon Battle of the Books is almost here! We are thrilled to see so many 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders get excited about reading and books, and soon it will be time for them to show off their knowledge.

We need volunteers to help with our mini-regional tournament on Saturday, March 2nd! The winning team from the ISP school tournament (February 22) will compete against teams from 20 other schools in Learners’ Hall.

We need:

  • 4-8 volunteers for set up on Friday, March 1

  • 10-12 people to help with Tournament day (March 2). These will be assigned  in 2-3 hour shifts, from 7:30am-3pm.

If you child is missing their jacket/sweater/water bottle, please give it a look. Our Lost and Found bins are located at Stearns or Hilltop (just outside the Music Room located at Hilltop). Please label jackets, sweaters and water bottles so we can get items to back their owners. We are finding lots of items not labeled with student names!

Parent Network Evening Meeting & Alumni Panel

The ISP Parent Network would like to invite parents to attend our 2017 Spring All-Parent Meeting to be held next Thursday, Feb 21 at Learners’ Hall, 6-8pm. The goal for this meeting is to be both informative and fun!

Come socialize with fellow parents and meet members of the 2018-2019 Parent Network Steering Committee. You’ll learn about volunteer efforts around the school, campus beautification projects, the progression of plans for re-unification of the Main and EC programs, and upcoming special events.

Then join the Parent Network in welcoming a special Alumni Panel!  ISP alumni will join us to talk about the impact that a ISP education had on their lives. This might help you to further understand the value of International School of Portland’s mission, and what you can expect as your child takes their newly developed global citizenship skills out into the bigger social and academic communities.

Refreshments will be provided. Interested in coming? Please RSVP by sending a quick email to parentnetwork@intlschool.org with your name and and how many will be attending.

Keepin It Clean Walks – Monthly Time Change

Per parent requests to make the Keepin’ It Clean walk schedule more accommodating,  the Parent Network has changed the walks to one Tuesday morning and one Thursday afternoon a month.

TWO grades will be assigned per month for Keepin’ it Clean Walks.  These are not required, but we hope to encourage ISP parents, relatives, or caregivers to walk together, socialize, and to keep our campus safe and clean.

Parents in PreK and Low-=K are invited to participate in our next Keepin’ It Clean Walk on Thursday, February 28th from 2pm to 3pm. Meet at Hilltop front gate. Gloves, pickers, and trash bags provided.

Your help is needed! These count towards parent volunteer hours! Adults only.
