Update from Robert – 8/12

Hello everyone,

We have continued to make progress on getting ready for the school year and I am happy to announce that we have filled the last two open teacher positions.

  • Ángela Durán is a native of Colombia and will join the PreK collaborative team. Angela and returning teacher Vicky LaMear will each teach one section of Spanish PreK. Most recently Angela taught at Amiguitos Preschool, and prior to that she taught at Kids Like Languages and at La Escuela Language Academy. Angela has a four-year degree in graphic design from LaSalle College in Bogota, Colombia.
  • Mercedes (Mercy) Martinez will join the fifth grade collaborative team as she returns to ISP after sixteen years away. Mercy and returning teacher Constanza Wilkes will each teach one section of fifth grade Spanish. Mercy is a native of Puerto Rico and taught first grade at ISP from 1991 to 1996. Since then she has taught grades 1-5 at Catlin Gabel, grades 6-8 at SEI Academy, and grades 2-4 at Arco Iris. She received her education at University of Puerto Rico and Marylhurst University in Education and English as a Second Language.

In the summer life of ISP we are on to the next phase as summer camp ended last Friday. Thank you to everyone who attended and otherwise contributed to making camp a success. Special thanks and congratulations to Ida Jenkins, our summer camp director who joined ISP this past January. Ida is also our transportation coordinator and Capstone coordinator, so you may see her in act in those roles as well.

Now that summer camp is over, our facilities team is busier than ever preparing the physical campus for your return. In addition to taking care of hundreds of detailed needs, the team is completing renovation work in the library and the downstairs bathrooms of the Hilltop building.

Have a great week,
