Update from Alfonso 12/5/11
In today’s top story you will shortly receive a letter from Board President Scott Kerman about the newly selected next Head of School. I think the Search Committee and the Board did an excellent job, and they have found a terrific, extremely experienced leader with true global experience.
We were visited this morning by representatives of the Hanban Organization (which supplies us with financial resources, books and teachers) and by reporters from two major national newspapers of China. As is usually the case, they were astounded by our kids’ Chinese language skills and their maturity, poise and knowledge.
Congratulations to our students and teachers on their wonderful performances in the Winter Festival show at the Gerding Theater. Few outsiders can understand the unique beauty of our students’ performances in Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. And, as I am sure you understood, a great deal of work went into each of those songs, dances, poems and plays. The festival shows will remain one of my fondest memories of ISP.
I know all my colleagues join me in extending heartfelt thanks to the many parents who prepared food and drinks and served them at the staff holiday party last Saturday night. Thanks to Lori Schallich and Karla Nutt who planned the party. Karla and her husband Tom also hosted at their lovely home. Thanks finally to the many parents who donned black and white to be the most elegant and overqualified servers anywhere!
On the horizon we have just two fortunately routine weeks leading up to the holiday break. Let’s just keep them peaceful and safe, especially by driving carefully on these frosted morning roads.
Take care and see you at the corner,
Alfonso
