Update from Alfonso – 10/24

Dear Friends,
Last Thursday at grade 1 and 2 assembly and again on Friday at grade 3-5 assembly, the 3rd graders treated us to a lovely presentation on symbols in flags and in national anthems of the United States, Cuba, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan and China. I was pleasantly surprised at how many of our students were able to sing our own national anthem (though the words were projected up on a screen). I was also intrigued by the fact that even many first graders picked up on the preponderance in national anthems of blood and canons and fighting, almost always in the cause of liberty. When we do have a global anthem some day, maybe pre- kindergarteners can write it:

We always share our co oo  oo kies
We wash behind our ears
We don’t play tag too roughly

We build nice things with legos

This coming Friday we will have our fall costume festival parade in Stearns hall . You will be able to tune into this delightful event via live streaming at www.ustream.tv/channel/intlschool (use the All-Parent password).  A caution that all grades PreK – 5 will be together. We older kids should try to make our costumes not too gruesome for the little ones. Also, no swords, guns, cave man clubs or ketchup encrusted knives please.

Our first wonderful Head Candidate Mr Don Fitzmahan is here visiting today and tomorrow. Tonight, you can attend the Candidate Presentation and Q and A. We have moved it down to Stearns hall to make it easier. And please rsvp for childcare if you need it. You can also say hello to Don  tomorrow morning from 7:45 to 8:20 in the staff break room (corner of modular 3 below the garden) . Or you can meet Don tomorrow afternoon from 2:00 to 2:45 in the gym. It is critical that we have widespread participation in the Head Search process. And we need to welcome these four terrific candidates.

Okay take care and see you at the corner,
Alfonso
