Notes from Alfonso – 9/19
Dear Parents,
School is definitely up and running, and I have but a few points this week.
First, on volunteer hours. Several years ago we had a policy whereby families who did not log the 25 hours (per family) had to pay in lieu. We do not do that anymore – we want you to volunteer because you want to and because you see the value. That said, I highly encourage you and ask every ISP family to step up for 25 volunteer hours per school year. It helps your child (there is lots of research showing this), it helps us (we couldn’t run the school without volunteers!), and hopefully it helps you too (make friends, understand better what’s going on in the school, feel more connected to your child’s education). Please remember to sign up at intlschool.org/volunteer and by watching ITK for volunteer opportunties.
In other news, please be aware that some classrooms are designated nut free zones because of students with serious allergies. Please do not skirt the issue. Please keep the class free of ALL nuts when it is nut free. If you have any questions, please consult the teacher or the front desk.
On the driving/ parking front a few things to remember:
-
- Please drive slowly at all times in and around campus; better to be late than sorry;
-
- No phones please while your engine is on;
-
- Turn your engine off if you’ll be idling for more than 10 seconds (click here for data);
-
- The parking spots in front of Stearns Hall main door and right next to the Hilltop Building main door are reserved for auction purchasers. Please do not park there;
-
- When parking nose in, go all the way in.
On the education front, this week we will discuss with faculty the meaning and methods of show and tell.
Hope to see you all at the curriculum nights this Wednesday and Thursday evenings. If you need childcare, please reserve it today.
Until then, see you at the corner,
Alfonso
