English Department News

As you may know, ISP students start English classes in 1st grade to focus on English literacy skills. Our English program complements the literacy work in the homeroom language, so that children end up reading and writing at grade level in two languages. This note is to share some changes in our English department this year:

  1. We now have five full time English specialists (instead of last year’s four full time and two part time). Lara Fowdy-Drouhard will be teaching full time; Teresa Wirsching will be full time IB coordinator and will not teach English.
  2. Kristie Ahola is on maternity leave through mid-November. Frequent ISP English substitute Janet Olson will be teaching Kristie’s classes during that time.
  3. Cassie Bellamy (formerly Korneder) is now the English Dept Lead Teacher, taking over for Kristie. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s English education, please speak first to your child’s English teacher. If you still have concerns or need another resource, feel free to contact Cassie at CassieB@Intlschool.org.
  4. All English classes will start on Friday, Sept 7 (English teachers will be assessing 1st graders and new students on Wed & Thurs). Homeroom teachers will tell students who their English teacher is once school starts.

I look forward to seeing all the students here next week!
