International School of Portland Acquires Lower Playground Property

Dear ISP Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Senior Management Team at ISP, we’re excited to announce that International School of Portland has formally purchased the Lower Playground property. We’ve been leasing it for decades from a longtime Portland family, and have been engaged in discussions about acquiring it for many years. Finally, thanks in large part to their extremely generous donation of a portion of the parcel value, we were able to realize our longtime dream of securing this property outright.

The Lower Playground parcel is a critical one to our future and ISP’s ongoing growth. We are now stewards to all of the property within the boundaries of S. Caruthers Street to S. Grant Street, a total of 3.5 acres. The Lower Playground is one of the remaining flat areas of the campus, which enables us to dream big when we look at the future. Our campus master planning can now move forward in new and innovative ways as we continue to cultivate our programs and build exciting spaces for learning, community, and play. We also understand our deep responsibility to supporting Portland’s rebirth and ensuring that all kids and families have easy and safe access to its urban core and all that it offers. We can take a giant step forward in furthering our mission to foster global citizenship—in its many forms—within our students and greater community.

To celebrate this exciting investment in ISP’s future, please join us on the Lower Playground for a small ceremony on Friday, April 12th, at 3:45 pm. For any questions, please reach out to me.

We will keep everyone informed as we advance our planning process and determine how best to meet the needs of our school.

Best,

Bodo
