About The School
For our children, a world of possibilities awaits. If we are to send them out to explore beyond the bounds of our neighborhoods, we must prepare them for the journey. Mentally, emotionally and linguistically. For a child capable of learning a language and absorbing a culture beyond their own will thrive anywhere they go. So we’ve created a school where tomorrow’s young explorers can be immersed in a language and comprehend a culture unlike their own.
But we didn’t stop there. Exploration, leadership and distinction require more than language proficiency. They require skill and an inclination to think critically, make connections and challenge oneself to continually do better. So we chose a curriculum and recruited teachers that help young minds do just that.

International School of Portland provides an engaging and rigorous academic program, taught primarily through a second language – Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish. With natively fluent teachers from around the world, children become bilingual in language and culture.

ISP elementary students are engaged and build critical thinking and problem solving through the International Baccalaureate program, all while immersed in their chosen language path. Elementary students also enjoy a robust program that includes Art, Music and PE. ISP students frequently exceed standard state and national benchmarks and are well prepared for middle school.

ISP has been an authorized IB World School since March 2010. It was the first school in the Pacific Northwest authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Visit our classrooms and see what an immersion education looks like in action. We provide several open houses during the year and are also happy to schedule a personal tour with one of our Admissions staff.
Capstone Study Abroad
Capstone Study Abroad
5th grade students utilize their language and cultural skills with a trip to China, Japan or Mexico. Students live with host families or in school dormitories and attend school with local students. The second week is spent touring cultural events and experiencing a new culture. This is a transformational trip for many students and their families.
