The Owl 1/2/2024

Parent Network Monthly Meeting this Friday

The ISP Parent Network’s mission is to strengthen, enhance and encourage the educational and community environment at the International School of Portland. It serves to identify and organize volunteer support at ISP. Just as importantly, it aims to strengthen relationships, communication, and collaboration between parents, faculty, and administrators.

Join us Friday morning to learn more about Parent Network happenings and how to get more involved now or in the future. If you are a current parent at the school, you are already a member of the Parent Network! 🙂

MLK Day of Service: ISP / SOLVE Campus Cleanup

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day, ISP will be CLOSED. MLK Day of Service is a national day of service to honor the legacy of Dr. King. We hope that you will participate in community service at ISP or around town instead.

As part of MLK Day of Service, the Green Team at International School of Portland will be hosting a parent and student lead campus clean up that is open to ISP families and community residents. This is an opportunity to beautify the campus and the surrounding community.

Gloves, Vests, pickers, trash buckets and trash bags will be provided!

ISP / SOLVE Campus Clean Up

Volunteers are encouraged to register for a SOLVE online Volunteer Account where they will be prompted to sign an online waiver for participation. Signing the waiver online saves time during check-in on the day of the event. Wanted: Loose Parts for Play!

ISP believes that the best way for children to explore their world, understand their emotions, make sense of their ideas, and develop their problem-solving ability is by engaging in intrinsically motivated self-directed play. “Loose parts” are items that can be transported, manipulated, and transformed. These seemingly ordinary items are the perfect asset for children engaging in play. Loose parts are essential to our program to nurture children’s development and interests.

We are asking our families and community members to look through the list of loose parts and donate them to our Early Childhood program.

What is needed right now:
Screws (flat tip)
Bolts
Napkin rings
Wooden pegs
Wooden beads
Spools
Cardboard tubes
Buttons of all sizes and colors.

You can drop them off at the Stearns Hall building.

We appreciate your support in nurturing your child’s development through creativity and connection.

– Maria Abad, Head of Early Childhood
