October’s Learner Profile attribute: I am Balanced

The ten International Baccalaureate Learner Profile traits are school values, and are means by which to support healthy social and emotional development. Our faculty focuses upon one of them each month as means.

For October, our faculty are focusing on “Balanced”

Profile Overview: We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

In other words…

I take care of my body, my mind, and my feelings.
I am connected to the world around me.

Our librarians, Amy and Tomoyo, have recommended books about Balanced.

More About ISP’s Student Support Team!

Why does SST exist at ISP?
As part of an ongoing commitment from the ISP leadership, the Student Support Team has been expanded over the past several years to more fully support each and every student at ISP. As we believe in looking through a holistic lens, as we see each child as a whole and unique person who has individual needs. So we work as a team to get to know our students and how we can provide wraparound support for them. We work directly with students, teachers, administrators and families. Here are members of the Student Support Team!

What, where and when do we do our jobs?
Specifically, we each are in classrooms and at recess regularly and get to know students throughout their spaces and places. We hear from teachers who ask us to observe students to add additional sets of eyes and ears, with the goal of better understanding their students. We work with students in small groups or individually, to offer counseling or academic interventions. We help administer assessments to help teachers collect academic data on students in elementary.

How do we interact with families?
We meet with parents to discuss ways they can partner with us to support their children. Grace and Crickett contact families when they are planning for interventions or specific supports for students. Erin coordinates with families around external support and information that helps us know their children better. Erin is happy to answer questions families may have around neurodiversity, social emotional challenges, ways to support your students at home, etc. We consider parents as vital partners towards the goal of happy, successful students at ISP!

Join our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee

On October 17th at 8:15-ish, we will have our first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Community Committee Meeting of the year. Last year, the members of this committee analyzed and dissected the Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism Survey and created actions to move ISP forward in this work this year.

This committee is open to all of our ISP community. If you would like to join, the meeting will take place both in-person and via Zoom. The in-person event will be held at our business office located at 122 S Arthur St.

Check out our ISP calendar for the Zoom link. If you have any questions, please reach out to Candy Trujillo.
