News from Alfonso – Jan 1/12

Dear Friends,

First welcome almost back and I hope you had a restful, reflective holiday. As some of you perhaps learned I had to leave a bit early because of a death in the family and so I regretted not being able to wish you a happy holiday in person.

Congratulations to Maestra Jossie on her marriage to the wonderful Lucien on New Year’s eve. We are all extremely happy for this terrific couple.

We are in today enjoying some very worthwhile professional development on math and on working with children who have attention issues. It is a nice way to ease back into school and get ourselves ready for the march into springtime. I am hoping that many of you are still at home enjoying a last day of rest with your children. (Or maybe your real rest will start tomorrow).

I have had no word from the Water Bureau so I am assuming they finished their targeted tasks during our break, but I understood that a 36″ water main was to have come down Caruthers Street and I don’t see the road cut all the way to the top. I will keep you informed as I have information.

Chinese teachers will jump right into preparing for the Chinese New Year Show on January 27th at the Gerding theater, so I know they will have their work cut out for them and will be looking for help from parents. Remember to mark your calendars for that event.

And so, we embark together on another step in the lives of our children and a step further into this century. I hope this year brings us personal and global peace as well as joy and fulfillment. See you tomorrow,

– Alfonso
