Capstone 2019: Chichen Itza
Today was really fun. We went to Chichen Itza and we got to see the huge pyramid. It was really cool to see it in real life instead of photos on the Internet. I was really excited to see one of the new 7 wonders of the world. We also got to tour around the rest of the city. I loved how everything was so exact and how a lot of the buildings had some sort of mathematical or astronomical meaning. After that we went to the observatory and then we shopped at the stands that were all over the area. After that we went to a local hotel and had lunch. This whole day has been really fun and I had a great time. – Ellie
Chichen Itza was very interesting. When we first arrived, we saw huge crumbling pillars, which, as our tour guide explained, were ruins of a local marketplace at the ancient city. Than, we got our first view of the pyramid. It was even more magnificent than I imagined. Over the voices of vendors and other tourists, our guide Raul explained that this impressing structure had not been made a Wonder of the World because of it’s beauty or height, but for it’s ancient use. On March 21, in just a few days, the sun illuminates the large temple in such a way that the form of the god of agriculture (a rattlesnake) to show up on the ancient stones. The rest of the visit consisted of a tour of the rest of the Mayan city, including a sacred cenote, and than a delicious lunch. It was great, and I wonder what we will do next! – Elissa ?
