"In the Know" Weekly Newsletter - The International School

The English Department’s new Parent Mentoring program is off to a great start. We’re now looking for more volunteers so that we can serve additional students who are candidates for the program.

The Parent Mentoring program matches committed parent volunteers with individual students whom teachers would like to provide with extra help. For the current school year, the program is limited to the English Department. One-on-one mentoring sessions take place outside of the English classroom, but during the school day. The teacher sets the curriculum, but the session between the parent and child is something of a cross between tutoring and mentoring. The three-way system helps to propel the student to the next level and makes a huge difference in his or her confidence. It is also a very fulfilling experience for the volunteer!

If you are interested in learning more about the program and can commit to working with a student for half an hour a week, please email Dan Pack at danp@intlschool.org.
