News from Alfonso - Jan 9

Greetings Friends,
I hope your weekend was a peaceful one. First a small but very significant point. When you are parking face in on Sherman Street (or backing into a space) please be sure to pull all the way in. If your car is sticking out it stops two way traffic. Of course watch the sidewalk for pedestrians but pull in until your tires touch the yellow barricades.

Our visiting teacher Floyd, from China (Xiaofeng Wang) is looking for a host family from February to June. He would like to be in a place with easy access to downtown by foot or public transport (or bicycle). He has a $500 per month allotment from the Chinese Government to pay for room and board. Floyd is a wonderful gentleman and would no doubt be the consummate guest. If you are interested in hosting him, please let me know.

As you may know my contract runs until the end of June, but we have much work to do between now and then. I have already begun correspondence with Robert Woods to start bringing him up to speed on every facet of TIS. He is a terrific and highly experienced school leader, and we will all have further opportunity to speak with him when he visits in the spring.

You will note that next Monday there will be no school in observance of Martin Luther King Day. I will have more to say about Dr. King in next week's In the Know. As a person born just after the middle of the last century (that is a scary observation!) I have some vivid first hand recollections.

Have a lovely week, and I'll see you at the corner,
Dr. Alfonso Orsini, Head of School, AOrsini@intlschool.org, 503-226-2496 x122
