Alfonso's update - May 17

Greetings, friends,
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend! It was a fine weekend for the TIS students who participated in the soccer tournament at Portland French School. Congratulations to them on all attaining medals and for even bringing home some trophies! Congratulations also to the Chinese and Japanese track students who performed at the Asia Fest over the weekend!

Last week our 2nd through 5th graders enjoyed a fantastic presentation by children's author and illustrator Henry Cole. Thank you to Librarian Tamara Fornell for hosting this terrific event.

As you will read below, last week was a record breaking week for the annual Book fair, with great benefits to the school library. Thanks to all parents who volunteered and to all those families who purchased books and thereby supported the library.

Also below, 15 year veteran Jossie Torres-Jurado expresses thanks for the Teacher Appreciation Week this year. I want to join her in offering my sincere thanks to all of you who made the faculty feel appreciated.

This coming Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 pm in the gym will be the Annual General Meeting of the TIS Board. All are welcome to attend. Among the topics on the agenda

1. Admissions Report - Jan Williams
2. Finance Report - Rob Timmons
3. Governance Committee Report and Nominations
4. Buildings and Grounds Committee Report
5. Strategic Plan Progress Report - Alfonso Orsini
6. Review of the Middle School Survey and a Proposal - Alfonso Orsini
7. Q & A

The school council is planning a field day for Monday June 14. Please watch upcoming ITKs for details. At the field day, students will get to say "farewell" to their graduating friends.

Finally, if you intend to enroll your child in summer camp, I am told that sessions are starting to fill up so please do not hesitate too long.

Have a great week and see you at the corner,
