Alfonso's news - Jan 11

Dear friends,
I got about an hour’s sleep last night due to jet lag and anticipation of returning, but I still feel energized to be back at TIS as we move into the second half of the year. We had a good trip back having just missed 25 centimeters of snow in Seoul. We got out only an hour late because of de-icing, and with an astute cab driver in Seattle, we made the 2:20 train to Portland.

While I was rather guilt ridden at not being here for the resumption of school, I was very happy to be in Dalian to honor my father-in-law who was a very good friend, and like most Chinese of his generation, had lived a challenging, interesting, and ultimately fulfilling life. Rituals are in themselves important, but more important perhaps is the chance to collectively remember those whom we love.

boxes-arrivingOn returning it is great to see that the materials purchased with the auction special appeal funds are starting to arrive. Our 41 new Macbook computers were delivered (see photo!) and librarian Tamara Fornell is already cataloguing her first purchases connected to the PYP Units of Inquiry.

It was great fun to see so many of you this morning, especially the one girl who told her mom that she believes I grew more hair since she last saw me before the holiday.

I look forward to seeing you all out at traffic in the morning or afternoon or down at the PreK building.

Also please remember the PTO meeting this Wednesday evening at 6:00. Both the board and I would love to see a strong turnout at every PTO meeting.

Have a wonderful week,
Alfonso, 503-226-2496 x104
