Dr. Orsini's update

Dear Friends,

Hope your week has been a good one. This past weekend I attended another new family picnic at Pendleton Park and then an afternoon event for the LowK Spanish families. Today I began my immersion in work with the talented academic admin team – Maria Abad, Principal, and the track leaders: Maria Lira, Spanish; Ann Zhu, Chinese; Masami Maruki, Japanese; and Teresa Wirsching, English and PYP Coordinator. We are preparing for the Inquiry week with teachers who return next week and doing a thorough review of our policies and practices based on past experience and feedback from staff and parents.

I am pleased to announce that from a field of highly qualified candidates, we have hired Ms. Kelsey Cleveland as our first Development Director. Kelsey comes to us from The Kobe Canadian Academy in Japan, an excellent 90-year old international school, at which she was very successful in creating the development office and leading their massive fund raising effort. Kelsey studied Japanese and Comparative Literature at Smith College and became fluent in Japanese and French. She is an international person, a believer in international education, and a terrific fund raising professional. We are lucky that upon returning to America she landed here in the Portland area and that she was taken by the mission of TIS.

Take good care and more soon,
