Volunteer Appreciation
On Friday last week, T.I.S. held a reception in acknowledgment of volunteerism in its many forms at the school. Especially in such a close community, the role of volunteers figures prominently in the success of T.I.S. on a day to day basis.

It was wonderful to see so many volunteers gathered in one place so that the school could thank them at year’s end. It was good to see the volunteers spend some social time as friends with each other.

I extend my own thanks again to Linda Bonder, Jhoanna Co, and Maria Abad for their work in having organized this event. From balloons and cakes to warm smiles among friends, it was a lovely occasion which I am sure will continue in the years ahead.

Graduation Ceremony
Thursday, June 4th, is an important day in the lives of the students in the graduating class of 2009. The school community will honour these young people and hear their addresses delivered in their track languages. It will be an emotional occasion, I am certain, as TIS celebrates the Class of 2009 and wishes the students well as they embark upon their middle school careers.

This is my final installment for In The Know. I would like to leave you with a few thoughts as we prepare to say goodbye.

In my many years of service as an educator, I have worked with students of all ages, and their teachers and parents, of course. I know something of school communities and the many components that comprise any particular community.

In that context, I want to say that I have enormous admiration and respect for the people of T.I.S. I say this about the school not only as an academic institution, but as a community of tightly-knit, caring people who strive continually to do the right thing for the students of the school.

T.I.S. is a jewel. It is worth every bit of the considerable investment of time, energy, thought, and financial contributions that have been made over the course of the previous seventeen years and this year, and will be made in the years ahead. The parents of this community play key roles in the continual evolution of such an effective school. I congratulate you for having persevered diligently as you continue to nurture such a unique and beautiful community.

It has been my pleasure to have been with you this year. The students, faculty, staff, parents, and Board have made this a marvelous journey for me on so many levels. You are forever in my thoughts and in my heart.

I know that you will continue to excel under the leadership of Dr. Orsini. With your support, he, the faculty and staff, and the Board, will lead T. I. S. along a path where you will explore many new opportunities and enjoy many more successes in the years to come.

I extend my heartfelt farewell to you all. May you enjoy a restful and peaceful summer, and a fabulous 2009-10 school year.
