Soccer Tournament & Track Meet

Dear TIS Parents,

Annual Soccer Tournament
The Portland French School has announced their yearly soccer tournament for Saturday May 16th, from 10am to 3pm, same place as in the past, at their SW Corbett Campus near John's Landing. Again, we will need parent volunteers to coach the teams. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY TO PARTICIPATE (and coaches don't need to know much about soccer).

  • Low K and Kindergarten will play together in 3 v 3 or possibly 4 v 4.

  • 1st and 2nd grade will play together (I don't have the number of players for any other age level yet)

  • 3rd and 4th will play together

  • 5th grade will play only with other 5th graders.

In all grades boys and girls are mixed together. No schedules have been made at this time.

Here is what I would like from those that are interested:

  • For my upper grade teams, please talk to your children and see if you can put a team together, find a parent to coach and give me your team rosters.

  • For the younger players, I understand many new families may not know the other soccer players so you can submit your players to me and indicate if you are willing to coach a team and I can match up some players.

  • Of course, if you have some friends you want to play with, you can send me your teams along with the coaches name.

Please respond via email to so we can coordinate with the coaches and make email lists per team.

Required uniforms are a blue shirt (TIS Shirt preferred), Shin Guards, and athletic shoes (cleats are fine).

Annual Track & Field Meet
The OISO Track and Field Meet is hosted by the German American School and is taking place after the end of the school year. They want to hold this event at PCC Sylvania on Saturday June 6th. Since our school year will be over, you will be on your own for this one. I am sure OISO has a release form you may need to sign there at the game. I will help to coordinate what I can before the end of the school year.

As in years past all students who wish to participate can participate from Pre K through 5th grade. Students will perform the Standing Broad Jump, some sprinting, and a tennis ball/softball throw. Also there will be one 6 member relay race (short sprint) per grade. They will have a 6 member relay race made up of teachers and parents also. I do not anticipate TIS teachers being on this relay.

Look for some more information on these events in the next In The Know newsletter.

Thank you,

Coach Robert
