Library Media Center News

The Beverly Cleary Reading Challenge party was a great success. Certificates, ice cream, games and prizes were enjoyed by sixty TIS students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Enormous thanks to the volunteers who helped to fund, plan and host the party: Elizabeth Wolf, Chris Higgins, Leslie Hall, Marisol Bernal, Gus Rivadeneira and Paula Prince. We are already looking forward to another party next year!

Thank you to TrackTales coordinator Kim Braun and readers Chika Fujiwara and Nehalem-Kunkle-Read for a fun night of Japanese crafts and stories. The kids made Samurai hats out of newspaper and heard Japanese folktales.

Ask your child about the author/illustrator he/she is studying during library class! Is it Roald Dahl, Frank L. Baum or Syd Hoff? Students in second through fifth grades are researching authors/illustrators in groups using print and electronic resources. They are then synthesizing the information and creating a basic PowerPoint presentation. Some of the presentations should be available online in May.

The library is the fortunate recipient of a wonderful donation of 37 new Spanish picture books from Ferran Ribo and his football-playing kindergarteners. Thank you Ferran!

The library will be offering a summer reading program. Check back here soon or in the Library Media Center for more information.
