2009 Run for the Arts is a Success!!

After postponing due to an unfavorable weather forecast on Tuesday, Run for the Arts went off without a hitch on last Thursday.  The weather was perfect--no rain, not too hot, and even some sunshine--and the kids had a blast (including Yukako Sensei's 1-month old baby who put in a couple of laps with Principal, Maria Abad)!  Now is the time we really need parents to help.  Pledges need to be collected and turned in by Monday, October 19th. On Thursday the teachers left notes with the number of laps completed by each child and instructions for returning pledges in parent folders.  Please be sure to check your child's folder or ask his/her teacher if you did not receive anything.

  • All checks must be made payable to Run for the Arts or Young Audiences

  • Be sure to sign the pledge sheets

  • Circle your child's shirt size in case they qualify for a free shirt (most older children will this year--but they MUST turn in their forms in order to receive one)

  • Runners who do not qualify for shirts and want to order one--or for any additional shirts--please use the form that was attached to the pledge sheets and enclose and additional $7.50/shirt

  • Completed forms with attached pledges (or place everything in one large envelope) can be returned to your classroom teacher or any of the front desks (Main bldg, Stearns', or Arthur)

**Note: this year the track was a bit smaller than when we used the lower playground.  So, the children have quite a few more laps this year than in the past.  Next year if we choose the same location we will make 2 laps run=1 counted lap.  However, for this year we will let each lap stand.  This means many more kids will qualify for shirts--but they MUST turn in their forms to receive one.**

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to assist with the Run and to cheer on the kids. It was wonderful to see so many parents out cheering and running with the kids all day long!

An extra special THANK YOU to the volunteers who helped all day--Kara Gajowskyj, Kathy Guilfoyle, LaShandre Bent, Anne Chang, Patti Ng, Scott Kerman and Leslie Hall and to Bob Cargill who came in even though his son did not have school today.  Also, the day would not have gone nearly as well without the all day help of many staff members:  Art Teachers--Tricia and Jessica, Music Teacher--Carol, English Teachers--Teresa, Kristie, Britt, and Dan, PE Teachers--Coach Robert and Coach David, Development Director--Kelsey Cleveland, and Head-of-School--Dr Orsini who also gave our 5th-graders a wonderful pep talk with their victory lap!   Thanks to all of you as well!

All money earned from Run for the Arts goes towards art and music supplies, school assemblies, and English Department field trips.
