Stephan's update

Gym flooring
Thanks to the organizational efforts of Frank Bojanowski, the new gym floor is now installed and it looks wonderful. The crew worked over the holiday weekend to complete the project in time for school today. Many of our students got to sit on the new gym floor this morning to watch the inauguration ceremony.

The crews will return to the school for some seam welding and touch- ups after 3:30 PM on Tuesday.
Many thanks again to the people who donated at the Auction to the Special Appeals project. You have made this new flooring possible. The balance of the gym refurbishment will take place when the children are again out of school for a time, very likely the March Break.

Strategic planning
The Strategic Planning process continues. Last week’s focus groups provided important information for the purposes of the planning document.

Long and intense meetings continue with many stakeholder groups represented. I must acknowledge again the outstanding work of Lynda Wannamaker, Elda Orr and Paula Prince toward ensuring the efficacy of this process. Their contributions in terms of time, talent, expertise, and determination can only be described as extraordinary in moving things forward.

PTO meeting
Thanks to the contributors and attendees at last week’s PTO meeting. These represent important gatherings of the community.

A temporary tent now sits in place on the playground. The school is still awaiting word as to the progress on having the school’s tent replaced or repaired following extensive winter storm damage.

In closing, may I take the opportunity as a Canadian to congratulate the United States of America on the inauguration of the 44th president, Barack Obama. It was a momentous occasion for us all as citizens of the world.
