Traffic planning information
Thanks to all who were able to attend the two meetings held last Thursday at the school.  I especially thank parents Lynda Wannamaker and Kim Marcus for giving so generously of their time and expertise in being our liaisons with the City and preparing these presentations for us.

This traffic issue has come to our attention within a relatively short time frame. To enhance our collective understanding of the issues at play, we have provided links on the school website.  Please look at www.intlschool.org/2008/10/03/traffic/ for more details about all of this.

To reiterate, the City is hosting an Open House regarding their traffic proposals on Tuesday October 7th, 2008 starting at 5:00 p.m. The Open House will be held at 2100 SW River Parkway in the Willamette River Room.

A City official has expressed openly his desire to work with us on these issues.  It falls to us to do our part in keeping the dialogue open. We now realize how several of the proposals will impact upon our school quite directly if implemented as proposed.  The link (above) provides information as to how members of our community can express concern over key areas of the proposal.

I enjoyed meeting over coffee with many parents at our Corbett campus on Friday morning as they learned more about the auction.  Kate and Mark hosted and provided important information for new parents. We have several new auction items forthcoming now.  We do need many more, so please make a contribution directly or ask a local merchant to donate an item for the auction. Forms are available at all the reception areas, and I know that Kate and Mark will be willing to provide guidance as to how to make your contribution to our most significant fund raiser.

Construction update
The ADA parking project at the Main building has certainly taken much longer to complete than we had anticipated. While the delays have been beyond our control, we know that the asphalt re-grading necessary as per the inspectors' direction will take place on October 10th while students are out of class.

The Corbett playground construction has been delayed due to the City's permit process.  We now anticipate having the lower area of the playground space decked-in by the end of October.

For the upper playground area at the Main building - the tree was supposed to come out on Saturday, but winds were too high to do it. We are rescheduling ASAP. As soon as the tree is out, we'll get the big tent put back up in the lower playground (the crane needs to come through the lower playground to remove the tree).

PTO coffee
Thanks to the PTO for having organized the coffee and Usborne Books display for new parents on Friday morning. It was good to meet more new parents in this setting, too.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) on October 10th
Our professional development day for faculty takes place this week on Friday.  Our focus will be on furthering our PYP preparation toward full IB implementation.
