This month LowK classes learned a new song, “Open Them, Shut Them” and a new echo song, “Away Up High In The Apple Tree.” Our echo songs provide practice in listening, using the singing voice, and matching pitch. We are always working on performing the beat, which is a skill that needs to be established before other rhythm learning can take place and is important for ensemble performance. It is easy for a young child to be more focused on self than others. I encourage them to always “listen to others” while we are singing. A new singing game this month is ”Bow Wow Wow.” This is a partner-changing circle game. Every time they do their hop-turn and discover their new partner, they shriek in delight!
