April: Library

April is one of my favorite months every year because we celebrate National Poetry Month! This month the bulletin board outside the library and one in Stearns Hall offer interactive poetry puzzles for students and parents to explore. Please feel free to make your own poem with the words or put the words in order to read a famous poem.

During library classes we will be reading animal poems and connecting this activity to our learner profile for the month. Knowledgeable means we develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance. Students listened to poems about animals, and using their already substantial knowledge of animals, guessed which animal was described in several poems. Then each student wrote his or her own animal poem and presented it to the class. This was a big hit!

Did you know the library has it's own website with information and resources for students, teachers and parents? Click here to explore it.

Scholastic Reading Club flyers went home before spring break or this week. If you missed it, you can always order online. The purchase of these books helps the school to buy library books, classroom reading sets, and funds the Bookflix database subscription.
