TIS Admissions Ambassadors Needed
Want to share your love of TIS with prospective families? Become a TIS Admissions Ambassador! Admissions season is now in full swing, and we could use some help with chatting with families who are interested in enrolling their children at the school. Prospective families really value hearing from people like YOU about your family’s experience at the school!
Parents with children in all grades and tracks welcome. You’d get assigned 3-5 families a month to reach out to via email or phone and say hello and offer to answer any questions that they may have. It would take 1-2 hours a month maximum, through May.
For more information about the program, please respond to this email or contact Jan Williams email@example.com
Save the Date: Chat with Alumni Night & All-Parent Meeting
Mark your calendars for the annual Parent Network all-parent meeting and Chat with Alumni Night! Come socialize with fellow parents and meet members of the 2019-2020 Parent Network Steering Committee.
Then join the Parent Network in welcoming a special Alumni Panel! TIS alumni will join us to talk about the impact that a TIS education had on their lives. Attendees of prior meetings have commented about how inspiring this evening has been!

5th Graders Seeking Donations for Refugees
In English class, we read a book called Refugee and learned about conflict and its effect on people’s day to day lives. We also had a presentation by our TIS music teacher, Sarah, who shared her experience working with refugees in a camp in Lesvos, Greece. We were so touched by our learning and we are moved to help refugees as much as we can. We feel sad and frustrated about their situation but we know there is something we can do to help.
There is a local organization called IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization). We contacted this organization and they gave us a list of items that we could donate. Would you consider donating an item from the list? Deanna’s 5th grade class will sort the items and send them to IRCO.
Thank you for being open-minded and caring and taking time to listen to us. It feels important for us to take action locally with this global issue. Please see the attached list of donation items. All donations can be left in the labeled boxes on the 5th grade floor or at the entrance of Learner’s Hall.

Please join us as we celebrate the Japanese New Year and share TIS’ Japanese culture and community!
Mochitsuki is Portland’s annual Japanese New Year celebration and has been a premiere event in the local community since 1996. The goal of Mochitsuki is to celebrate tradition by sharing Japanese and Japanese American culture.
TIS will be represented there with a booth there, where we provide information about the school and offer Fukuwarai, a “make a face” game that is common to New Year celebrations, as well as Shoji (Japanese chess) and other games.
This year’s Mochitsuki will be held on Sunday, January 26 from 11am-4pm.

Girl Scout Daisies – Kindergarten Troop
Hello, Kindergarten Parents.
Several LowK parents are starting a Girl Scouts troop for our kindergarten girls this year. It’s really fun and a great way for students to make friends in different classes and language tracks. Typically, the troop meets after school every two weeks.
If your daughter is interested, please let us know!
