We Almost Have all of our Room Parents!

Thanks to the many of you who have stepped up to room parent this year! At this point, there are only four classes with no room parent, and two classes that are seeking partners.

And remember: The main role of room parenting is to DELEGATE volunteering opportunities to fellow parents in the class, not to do it all yourself.  🙂

  • 1st grade – Ivonne and Liza’s classes (some partners wanted)
  • 2nd grade – Jennifer’s class
  • 3rd grade – Celina and Cristina’s classes
  • 4th grade – Tongfang’s class

See intlschool.org/room-parents for the “job” description, or CLICK HERE to sign up

Questions about room parenting? Feel free to reach out to Kat Simons, current room parents, or our Parent Network leads, Andrea Long and Meryl Villarreal (parentnetwork@intlschool.org)

MobyMax

ISP is continuing MobyMax this year. MobyMax finds and fixes learning gaps with the power of personalized learning. MobyMax’s adaptive curriculum creates an individualized education plan for each student, allowing gifted students to progress as quickly as they like while simultaneously ensuring that students who need extra support in certain areas get the extra instruction they need.

Each student at ISP in grades 1-5 has a login to access this online program; login info is the same as last year.  If you have questions or need additional information, please contact your student’s teacher. www.mobymax.com

Head of Elementary Coffees

All parents of Elementary students (1st – 5th grade) are invited to join Bodo Heiliger at Head of School Coffees throughout the year. This will give members of the community an opportunity to come and hear about developments in the school, as well as provide an open forum to ask questions or voice concerns.

  • Wednesday, October 9 from 8:15-9:15
  • Wednesday, January 8th from 8:15-9:15
  • Wednesday, April 8th  from 8:15-9:15

All Coffees will happen in Learners’ Hall. Looking forward to seeing you there,Bodo Heiliger, bodoh@intlschool.org

Bodo always makes sure to keep up with the latest in children’s literature!

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)

ISP will be participating in OBOB for the third year now.  If your child loves to read this is the activity for them!

Students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are welcome to participate.  The battles are between teams of 4-5 students (although technically a team can have as little as 2 members).  Please keep in mind that at the battles only 4 team members may participate at a time so if you have a 5th member one would be an alternate and have to sit out.

The battles consist of 2 teams taking turns answering questions about 16 different books.  There will be a school battle held in February and the winner will go to the regional battle which will be hosted at ISP sometime in March (it will be scheduled around Capstone so 5th graders can participate).  If the ISP team wins the regional battle then that team would go compete at the state battle which is on April 4th.

Students are encouraged to participate even if they don’t read all of the books.  Many of the teams divide up the books so that each member becomes an expert at 4 books.

Please contact ISP Parent and OBOB Organizer Betsy Cruz (cruzme77@yahoo.com ) with any questions.  We will be starting to put team rosters together in the next few weeks.
