News from Alfonso – 5/7

In today’s top stories, Welcome to the world and to the ISP community
Chisa’s new daughter Koto Lucille and Jing Jing’s new son James, both of whom came into being this weekend. Koto weighed in at a rousing 6 lbs 14 ozs and James was close behind at 6.13. Our heartfelt congratulations to both families and thanks for their contributions to the ISP future enrollments program.

There are signs up on classroom doors for walk and bike to work month. These were given to me by parent Phil Richman. I want to make some modifications especially for those people who live so far away that it would take a day or so to get here by biking or walking, because I know those people also have a good commuter spirit. Students can also mark the list when they take public transport or when they carpool or even when they walk and bike places on the weekend!!! This is NOT a competition; it is a community effort and every one of us can help in some way. I have ridden public transport each day for three years but all you people who have given me rides to places should please recognize yourselves on the sign up sheets!!! ALL children will get stickers at the end of the month.

There will be a professional development day this Friday during which we work on our program of inquiry in advance of next year’s PYP re-authorization visit.

Finally, to my wonderful colleagues, I want to issue a very heartfelt thank you during teacher appreciation week. We have gone through so much together. Like Henry IV in his St Crispin’s day speech to his weary troops, I say “we few, we happy few, we band of brothers (and sisters).” Thank you teachers for entering this wonderful profession and for pursuing it with such ardor and commitment.

Have a lovely week and let’s hope for rain 😉 I’ll carry my umbrella each day.
