News from Alfonso – 4/16

Dear Friends,
As I write this, 6 teachers are finishing up their PYP workshop on inquiry in Kansas City. Your special appeal funds made this extremely important professional development possible, and this is just one piece out of $35,000 spent thus far this year on professional development. We are also working on our final bids for a sound system and mounted projector in the gym to facilitate assemblies and guest speakers as well as the much anticipated talent show.

With the arrival of our new part time tech person today, Mr Mark Usher, we will be doing a last check of our wireless infrastructure before ordering 50 new ipads, along with charging carts, that will enable students 3 years old and up to work on writing and reading in four languages as well as science, math and research. We are also carefully shopping for some new play equipment for Arthur Street. Your contributions fulfill our needs and bring our hopes to life. Your donations make possible not only paying the bills, but also paying for field trips, classroom resources and books. That is why the special appeal and the ISP Fund are crucial to us and why we ask for your support.

We are about half way to our ISP Fund goal for this year and we are gearing up for a big reminder-fest next week. As I have said, we have two goals: one is to reach $60,000 and the other is to have 100% participation. So while I wish everyone would give at least $10, we will also need larger donations to reach our goal.

And if we need further reminder of why we support ISP, please have a look at these videos created by Linda Bonder. They show not only graduates’ reports of their experience here but also the day by day, year by year careful progression of learning in each language track and in the school as a whole.

I will be out for the remainder of this week but will be reachable by phone and email.

Take care and have a good week,
Alfonso
