TIS encourages families and visitors to walk, cycle, carpool and take transit to access the campus.

The Portland Streetcar stops a short distance away at SW 1st & Harrison.  Stop ID 12377 serves southbound Streetcar riders.  Stop ID 12380 serves northbound Streetcar riders.

Free online tools for alternative transportation around Portland – take TriMet to TIS!!!

(1)    TriMet.org:  This free online tool displays the best routes for your trip. Also see “Bus Options” section below.

(2)    byCycle.org: Another free online site, this great gadget produces the best bike route between two points.   You can even ask for the “safer” route to avoid major intersections.  Go to http://bycycle.org/regions/portlandor and begin biking around Portland even more.

Pedestrian and Bicycle access to TIS is best made from the East side of the school along SW Water Avenue.

  • Coming from the North:  Access via sidewalk just 40 feet west of the SW intersection at SW Harbor & SW Harrison.  This area can be approached from Downtown/PSU via SW Harrison or from Tom McCall Waterfront Park via the newly constructed path along SW Harbor Way.
  • Coming from the South:  Access via sidewalk along Water Avenue.  From South Waterfront/OHSU, cyclists and pedestrians may use the new walking path and cycle track on Moody. Turn west along SW Sheridan to Water Avenue.

Due to ongoing construction of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Project around TIS bicycle and pedestrian routes are subject to change.  TIS is working in concert with TriMet and the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation to ease access for cyclists and pedestrians.

Bus Options
Note most of these stops are from the South and Southwest of the School.  For all other transit access we suggest transferring to the Portland Street Car along the Bus Mall on 5th & 6th Avenue near PSU.
