The TIS Fund
What is the TIS Fund?
The TIS Fund is an ongoing effort that augments the school’s operating budget with annual, unrestricted gifts that help fund what you love about the school –- our teachers, educational programs, and students. Donations to the TIS Fund sustain and improve the school by helping fund salaries and benefits, faculty professional development, building operations, classroom materials, financial aid, Capstone trips abroad for our 5th graders, and other necessities or priorities. We invite all members of the TIS community –- parents, alumni, faculty, grandparents, staff, trustees, and friends –- to come together to make a world of difference in the daily educational experiences of our students.
What is the goal of the TIS Fund?
Our goal is to achieve 100% participation by having all parents, faculty and staff make a donation to the TIS Fund and/or Special Appeal. We need to demonstrate strong support from our immediate community to be successful in seeking support outside our community. We track participation by class to break our goal down into smaller sections. We will update you in In the Know and on signs on the classroom doors this spring. New this year – to respect the desires of our donors, no names will be included on the classroom signs.
How much am I expected to give?
No gift is too small and every gift is important. Every gift is valued and gratefully received because of its intent to support our students. Every gift is unique because every donor makes a gift for different reasons and with different circumstances. Gifts have ranged from $1 to over $5,000. The average donation is $150. Every gift matters every year.
How do I make a donation to participate in the 2011-12 TIS Fund?
Check: A check made out to “The International School” with TIS Fund in the memo line can be delivered to any of our receptionists or mailed to the Development Office, The International School, 025 SW Sherman Street, Portland, OR 97201. Click here for the TIS Fund donation form to mail in with your gift.

Under giving options, please consider selecting “Donate 100% to Charity – Add the 3% so that 100% of the donation goes to International School”. You can also maximize your donation to TIS and save time by scheduling a monthly, quarterly, or yearly gift to the TIS Fund on your credit card.
Cash: Deliver to the school in an envelope for the Development Office with a donation form or a note inside saying who it is from and that it is for the TIS Fund. Click here for the TIS Fund donation form to mail in your gift.
Stocks: If you are interested in donating stocks, contact the Development Office for instructions.
Matching gifts: Many civic-minded employers will match your gift to the TIS Fund. Check with your company’s human resource department to determine if you have a matching gifts program and for additional details.
The deadline to participate in the 2011-12 TIS Fund is June 30, 2012.
Are my donations to the TIS Fund tax-deductible?
Yes. The International School is a registered 501c3 non-profit. The International School tax ID number is 94-3126167. The thank you letter you receive by mail after your donation will serve as your receipt for tax purposes.
Why do we raise money?
Like most independent schools, tuition does not cover all of our expenses. We keep our tuition fees as low as possible because it is important that TIS remain affordable for all our students.
