2011-2012 TIS FUNDRAISERS

boy-raising-hand

TIS Fund – July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012
We invite all members of the TIS community — parents, alumni, faculty, grandparents, staff, trustees, and friends — to participate annually in the TIS Fund. Your donation to the TIS Fund directly supports what you love about the school – our teachers, our educational program and our students. Your unrestricted donation helps fund staff salaries and benefits, faculty professional development, building operations, classroom materials, financial aid, Capstone trips, and other necessities.

Your participation in the TIS Fund, no matter the amount, makes you our partner in educating global citizens. Our goal is 100% participation from our parents, faculty and staff. By coming together with a shared goal of enhancing children’s education, your tax-deductible contributions truly make a difference in sustaining and improving the school. Every gift matters every year.

Run for the Arts (RFA) – Tuesday September 27, 2011
A fun event to kick off the school year, Run for the Arts is an annual jog-a-thon coordinated by Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington. Students (and their families) secure pledges for the run, earn points, win prizes and raise funds for our art and music programs. The students provide the enthusiasm and leg power! RFA raised a record $18,000 last year and we hope to do even better this year with your participation and support.

TIS Auction – Saturday November 19, 2011

This year’s event will held at the Portland Art Museum for the first time. The evening will include a silent and live auction, a full sit-down dinner and social time. General admission tickets cost $100 per person. Pre-event admission is $25 per person. We encourage you to invite your friends and family as our new venue has more room to welcome everyone. (Every year, the appeal supports a different need. Last year, the appeal raised over $79,000 for math and science.)

SCRIP: Raise money for TIS while you shop for groceries and more – ongoing
When you purchase SCRIP, you are purchasing gift cards for popular retailers that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials – with every purchase you earn revenue for TIS. SCRIP is a nearly effortless way for you to contribute.

When you buy SCRIP through TIS, the merchants give the school a percentage of your purchase. For example, if you buy $50 worth of SCRIP, you pay $50 to TIS, you get $50 worth of gift certificates at the merchants of your choice, and the merchants give TIS a percentage – usually between 3 and 15 percent. SCRIP sales generate several thousand dollars each year to supplement the school’s operating budget. Think of how much you spend per month on groceries – how about making that your monthly scrip card order?

Matching gifts – ongoing
Many civic-minded employers (including Alliance Berstein LP, BlackRock, Farmer’s Insurance, FLIR Systems, Intel Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, Mentor Graphics, Morgan Stanley, Nike, Regence, Synopsis and Wachovia) match their employee’s charitable gifts to qualified non-profits. This is a wonderful way to maximize the philanthropic power of your donation to TIS. We received over $5,000 in matching gifts to our Annual Giving campaign and for the special appeal from the companies listed above. Check with your company’s human resource department to determine if you have a matching gifts program and for additional details.

Nike employees: You need to make your donation via GlobalGiving in order to be eligible for a match. Go to www.globalgiving.org and under organization, select International School, The.

We offer this opportunity in partnership with Charity Connections, a program of Volunteers of America Oregon. After the sale of the vehicle, we will receive 60% and Volunteers of America, will receive a 40%.

To donate your vehicle, please go to www.charity-connections.org/donate.html and select “The International School” as your beneficiary. Please let the TIS Development Office know that you have made a vehicle donation. We will let you know when we receive a donation after your vehicle sells.

Wine tasting (date to be determined)
While raising your glass to taste a variety of wines, you will help raise funds to enhance the TIS Library Media Center. Sip, savor and socialize at this fun, casual event in an industrial-chic warehouse space. Proceeds from the wine tasting supplement the library budget by several thousand dollars each year.
