Scrip Gift Cards

Questions about SCRIP that are not answered here? Contact the Scrip program chair at scrip@intlschool.org.

Q. What is SCRIP?
A. Traditional (paper) “Scrip” is simply another name for “Gift Certificates.” If you have ever used a gift certificate, then you’ve used Scrip.

When you buy SCRIP through TIS, the merchants give TIS a percentage of your purchase. So if you buy $50 worth of SCRIP, you pay $50 to TIS, you get $50 worth of gift certificates at the merchants of your choice, and the merchants give TIS a percentage – usually between 3 and 15 percent.

Q. How is SCRIP used?
A. Just like cash. This means that you just present your SCRIP gift certificate for payment at the register without any restrictions.

Q. Is SCRIP tax deductible?
A. No, because you get the full face value on your gift certificate or gift card.

Q. What can the earning potential of our school be?
A. If 200 families each purchase $75 of Safeway Scrip (4% discount) each week for 9 months of school, they would generate $600 weekly, or $2,400 monthly, or $21,600 yearly for the school! Just for buying groceries! If the same 200 families also purchased additional consumables totaling $125 per family- things such as clothing, books, gifts, etc.- also at an average of about 5% discount, they would generate an additional $1,250 a week, or $5,000 monthly, or $45,000 for 9 months!

Q. Can I use my credit card to purchase SCRIP?
A. No, currently we are only accepting cash or checks to pay for Scrip to avoid credit card fees.

Q. Can other members of my family or friends purchase SCRIP through our program?
A. Absolutely! We encourage you to extend this program to grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Just add their purchase to your order or have them complete an order form listing your child’s name under student name on the form.

Q. What is e$crip?
e$crip allows you to register your credit card(s) online and automatically give a percentage of profit back to our school each time you shop at a participating retailer and use the registered card. Here’s how e$crip works…

  1. Register your existing grocery loyalty (i.e. Safeway card), debit and credit cards for use in the program.
  2. Make purchases at participating merchants. The merchants will automatically make contributions to your chosen group based on purchases you make using the cards you have registered.
  3. Your purchases are tracked and available to you online allowing you to see just how much you are earning on your child’s behalf! Go to www.escrip.com to see the latest list of merchants and to register your credit card(s). Friends and family across the country can also register their credit cards and select TIS as their organization of choice. This is just another great and easy way for you and your distant family members to get involved with your child’s school.

Q: What happens if my newly purchased Scrip gift card is rejected by the merchant for having a zero balance?

A: In the rare instance that this happens, please keep your Scrip gift card for reference and contact the TIS Scrip team at scrip@intlschool.org. We will call the Scrip Office and resolve the problem with them.
