Field Trips & Background Checks

Field trips are an important part of IB learning; teachers will arrange class field trips to align with the program of inquiry.

Each student will be given one school t-shirt per year which they must wear on field trips. If a shirt is lost or otherwise unavailable on field trip day, the parent should get a new one in the Stearns Hall office for $8.

At least one week before a field trip, parents will be notified by the teacher via e-mail explaining the destination, time of day, purpose, and transportation options.

Parents must provide car seats – clearly labeled with the child’s name – for children under 60 lbs and for any other children requiring a car seat.

We rely on parent chaperones to assist during field trips.  Please review the Essential Agreements for Field Trip Chaperones if you are interested in chaperoning.  Thanks for your help and dedication!

Please note that if you are chaperoning a field trip that requires an entry fee (museum, theater, etc) classroom budget funds do NOT cover chaperone entry fees.  Please plan on paying the field trip vendor directly for your entry fee.

Chaperone & Volunteer Requirements

PreK and LowK

**All parents interested in chaperoning a field trip must contact the teacher at least 1 week in advance of the field trip.  All chaperones must be approved by our Transportation Team.  Nurys or Candy will email parents before the field trip to let them know if they are approved to attend.

Please DO NOT complete the OCC background check and do not renew a OCC background check, even if they send a notice to your home. (OCC is the Oregon State Office of Child Care, formerly known as the Central Childcare Division – CCD).

Prek and Lowk field trips will involve either walking or taking the Streetcar from school. In addition, about two times during the year, PreK and LowK classes may have a late-start day with optional off-campus class activities. Parents will need to drive or arrange their own carpooling for those mornings. Our aim is to provide at least 4 weeks advance notice of such days so that arrangements can be made for every child to attend. Families that cannot or do not want to participate may bring their child to school as usual. The child will participate with another class during the late start time.
