Art, Music, PE

At TIS, we believe that art, music and physical education help children develop a broad, open-minded understanding of themselves and their world. As a result, TIS students study art, music and PE with specialist teachers as regular, integral parts of the school curriculum.

In addition to the intrinsic value of understanding art, music and participating in physical education, the research is unequivocal on their greater benefits:

“[The arts] instill in students the habits of mind that last a lifetime: critical analysis skills, the ability to deal with ambiguity and to solve problems, perseverance and a drive for excellence. Moreover, the creative skills children develop through the arts carry them toward new ideas, new experiences, and new challenges, not to mention personal satisfaction.” (Education Week, Jan 26, 2005)

“It is well established that adequate physical activity is not only essential for a child’s health, but it is also critical for the child’s ability to learn.” (California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness, January 2010)
