Summer Camp - new this year
Every year we gather feedback from our staff, parents and students, then use that to make camp even better for the following year. Here are the major changes from last year to Camp 2008:
On the first day of camp, parents will take campers directly to their classroom instead of congregating in the gym. There will be signs and staff in the reception area to direct you to your camper’s room.- Swimming will be only for 6-12 year olds, and will be at the YMCA instead of at Riverplace. Riverplace could no longer accomodate us, so we will take school buses to the YMCA for swimming and land-based fun.
- The major field trip for children ages 6+ will be to OMSI instead of to the Zoo. (The zoo gets too crowded on some summer days.) Children ages 6+ will still take a walking field trip to Waterfront Park.
- Camp will be divided into more age groups instead of the two groups last year. This year there will be separate groups for 3 to 4-year-olds, 5-year-olds, 6 to 7 year-olds, and 8 to 12-year-olds, enrollment permitting.
- At the end of camp, each class will give a short performance and reception for parents in its own classroom instead of one long performance in the gym.
- Science workshops will be provided each session by Mad Science instead of by OMSI. (Even if the names of the Mad Science workshops are the same for different ages, the workshops will be age-appropriate.)
- Campers will see specialists every session to teach exciting workshops such as TAIKO drumming, rhythm band, karate, and African dance.
