Spanish, Chinese and Japanese language immersion camps –
open to all levels of fluency.

Summer camps at The International School immerse children in another language and culture right here in Portland. Your child will explore a foreign country guided by a knowledgeable teacher who brings firsthand experience to the journey.
Children will have fun discovering language and culture through hands-on projects, stories, songs, games, outdoor fun, and lots of communication activities designed to develop and enhance language skills.

Our Camps Include:
- Small groups with teachers from around the world
- Fun outdoor and indoor activities aimed at building language skills (songs, folktales, crafts, games, sports, and more)
- Cultural performances
- Ice Cream Social
- Classes with trained specialists- yoga, sports & games
- Exciting field days (water balloon toss, relay races, and more)
- Swimming lessons for children in grades 2 – 5
Camps At A Glance:
Choose the camp that is right for your child.
Step 1: Choose a language (Spanish, Chinese or Japanese)
Step 2: Choose a section that is appropriate for your child’s age and fluency level in the chosen language (see chart below; each camp section is designated by a color)
Step 3: Choose which two-week session(s) your child will attend
Session 1: June 25 – July 6 (no camp July 4)
Session 2: July 9 – 20
Session 3: July 23 – August 3
New themes and activities each session mean your child can have fun in one session or all three!

Session Themes: Yellow, Orange, Purple and Blue Camps
Yellow, Orange, Purple and Blue Camps follow the same themes with activities tailored specifically to campers’ age and fluency level.
Session 1 June 25 – July 6 (no camp July 4)
Theme: My Family, My Friends
Activities this session will focus on the people in our lives- families, friends, people in our communities, and famous people from around the world.
Session 2: July 9 – July 20
Theme: The World Around Me
Campers will explore nature and animals through fun-filled language activities and projects.
Session 3: July 23 – August 3
Theme: Buildings, Bridges, and Homes
Campers will investigate their own city and home as well as cities and homes around the world.
Session Themes: Green Camps
Green Camps are project based. See age and language fluency requirements in the chart above.
Session 1 June 25 – July 6
(no camp July 4)
Project: Lights, camera, action!
During the two weeks, students will write a play in the target language, create scenery and costumes, and perform the play on the final day of the session.
Session 2: July 9 – July 20
Project: Extra, Extra!
Campers will have fun creating a newspaper and video newscast in the target language. They will research, interview, and photograph to gather information and produce their publication and newscast.
Project: Cultural Fair!
Students will research interesting aspects of a country that speaks their target language (music, food, sports) and put together a cultural fair. On the last day of camp the fair will be open to other campers and families.
