Chinese Track Teacher
YI GUAN
Born and raised in Guangzhou, China
Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and literature from South China Teacher Education University;
Teaching since 1977; teaching at TIS since 2007.

I feel so happy when I see children learning another language and exchanging their knowledge. It is an opportunity for me to enjoy and work with very lovely children in TIS. I love them and I also enjoy sharing Chinese culture with them. This will help create a wonderful future for them.

Born and raised in Wuhan, China.
Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Wuhan University.
Teacher’s License from Department of Education of China
Trained in Psychology and Education
Putonghua Grading Test: Grade A of Level Two (Chinese Language Teacher)
Teaching since 1990; teaching at TIS since 2006.

I enjoy teaching. I love to share my experience and specialty in Chinese Language and Culture with kids. I’m happy to watch the kids grown up under Chinese atmosphere. I also love the multiple culture environment at TIS.

HELEN ZHENG HONG XIA

I love to teach because I can be with the kids every day. Teaching them Chinese and playing with them every day not only helps me remain a kid at heart, but I learn a lot as well. The International School gives me a wonderful opportunity to share the Chinese language and culture.

Teaching is so much more than just a job to me. I enjoy the time I spen with kids and I love to see them grow healthfully and happily with more knowledge. I treasure their unique talents and want to help them make the most of those talents. I also love the multiple culture environment at TIS.

I knew what I wanted to be at age 10 and have never had a second thought. Teaching, I know, will be my lifelong career.

I have been teaching since 1996 - 3 years in Taiwan, and the rest in the U.S. In these years, I get much more than I can give. From the children’s eyes, I see our future; from their points of view, I see how the world going to be. As an educator, I enjoy being with our future masters! The happiest thing for me is to see our future masters learn joyfully, grow confidently and responsibly and make a progress by time!

My favorite thing about teaching is being with the children. I especially like the little ones in preschool and kindergarten.

I enjoy seeing students learn. It’s a sense of accomplishment when I see progress in my students. To see them understand something for the first time feels great. I’m excited to see students being educated in not just one language but multiple languages.

My favorite thing about teaching is sharing my language with people of different cultures. TIS provides many different language classes to the Portland Community - that makes it special!

I have been married to my husband Tin Sang for many years. We have a daughter, a son-in-law, and wonderful grandsons.
