Update from Alfonso – March 5

Dear Friends,

Last Thursday at the grade 1 and 2 assembly the student council did a lovely send off to thank Jhoanna Co. Many many students were able to point out different jobs that Jhoanna has performed for us all. The School Council reps made a nice speech and then showed us the flowering plant that will be placed in the courtyard to help us think of Jhoanna every time we see it.

Capstone students will be heading out to China, Japan and Mexico this week and of course we wish them well in their journeys. As you may know their Capstone trip is now the basis for the grade 5 exhibition unit on cultural difference. The children wil be carrying prepared interview questions and surveys and cameras to take photos and video, all to document in detail the similarities and differences in our lives around the world in everything from the environment to clothing to leisure activities to family to schooling and to food.

You will be receiving an overall report on the homework survey shortly via email. Your teacher will (or perhaps has already) shared the survey results for your child’s class. Please watch for that and give it a read. Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey.

Last week I may have foolishly mentioned spring (before the snow started to fall again). Let me go on record as saying that I anticipate only bleak cold wet weather for months to come.

Have a peaceful week and see you at the corner,
Alfonso
